Pa. Man Fleeing Police Hospitalized After Md. Crash

MANCHESTER, Md. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania man fleeing police in northern Maryland was critically injured when he crashed his car.

A deputy with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office tried to pull over 29-year-old Byron Johnson Jr. of Hanover, Pennsylvania for speeding early Saturday morning on Maryland Route 30 in Manchester. That's just south of the Pennsylvania line.

But the sheriff's office says Johnson sped up and continued driving. Soon after that, Johnson hit a shoulder and then an embankment, causing his car to roll several times. He was taken to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with significant injuries.

The crash is under investigation, and the sheriff's office is looking for people who may have witnessed it.
