Virginia Beltway Reopened Overnight After Overturned Tanker Closes Lanes
FAIRFAX COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- The Virginia beltway reopened early Friday morning after an overturned tanker shut down the roadway for all of Thursday evening, creating havoc during the evening rush hour.
An overturned tanker has closed all the lanes in the inner loop of I-495 in Virginia Thursday afternoon.
The tanker overturned near the American Legion Bridge, closing the bridge as well.
From overhead, you could see the tanker truck went over the jersey wall.
It was carrying thousands of gallons of gas, according to Virginia officials, who warned of a possible hazmat situation.
DMV commuters spent hours getting to their destinations Thursday as traffic detoured onto other roadways and backroads.
Twitter user Harold Smith shared dash came video of the accident.
