Orioles, MASN and WJZ Team Up To Feed The Hungry
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- If you're headed to Oriole Park at Camden Yards this weekend to catch the series with the Yankees, you'll also have a chance to help those in need.
As WJZ's Ron Matz reports, WJZ, the Orioles and MASN are teaming up to help feed the hungry.
It's the 30th annual joint food drive, and the Orioles wives were out in force helping at the Maryland Food Bank Wednesday morning.
"It's really important," says Jill Davis, Chris Davis's wife. "It's great to get together with the other wives and girlfriends on the team and to just do what we can to help out, give back."
Angela Showalter agrees.
"You want people to realize that going in to the ballpark, they're coming for entertainment but they're also able to give back to someone else while they're coming in. If they forget their food they can give cash money which goes a long, long way in purchasing meals for families."
She points out that kids are usually especially eager to give.
"One thing I've noticed over the years is the youth. They're so quick to reach in their pockets and give. As a parent, it warms my heart."
Maryland Food Bank CEO Beth Martino says it's a critical time of year for the organization.
"We actually really need food at this time of the year, so this is a great time for us to partner up with the Orioles and hopefully stock our shelves a little bit."
