Firefighter suffers minor injuries from two-alarm fire in Baltimore County

BALTIMORE- Baltimore County Fire officials are investigating a two-alarm fire that hospitalized a firefighter Sunday morning.

"We had heavy fire from the rear second-floor area," said Baltimore County Fire Deputy Chief Marcus Johnson. 

According to a released statement, the two-alarm fire broke out on the 9300 block of Harford Road in Parkville around 6 a.m.

"Upon arrival, we had a heavy fire showing in the rear second-floor area. A working fire was called at that time just to bring out some additional crews," Johnson told WJZ. 

Firefighters told WJZ when they arrived, they learned the building was vacant and they worked to put the fire out from the outside. 

"Unfortunately, it's a pretty frequent occurrence but ultimately our goal was to make sure that we do not endanger the lives of firefighters, so we want to be able to protect the exterior structures and surrounding structures and make sure we do so safely," said Johnson. 

While battling the fire, a firefighter was sent to the hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time. 

The deputy chief shared with WJZ that the firefighter has been released from the hospital. 

County fire officials say the fire was under control just after 7:30 a.m.
