On Anniversary Of Arrest, Baltimoreans Reflect On Freddie Gray

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Tuesday, April 12, 2016 marks the one year anniversary of the arrest of Freddie Gray.

The 25-year-old died of a spinal cord injury he received while riding in the back of a police van.

His death--- a week later-- triggered a wave of riots and unrest in the city.

Six officers are charged in his death.

Now, nearly a year later those officers await their trial, the first is set to begin in May.

On the anniversary of his arrest, our media partner The Baltimore Sun asked Baltimoreans what Freddie Gray means to them.

"Hope and despair at the same time," said Baltimore Councilman Brandon Scott.

"Put the guns down and just move forward and pursue our dreams," said Baltimore Ravens' Terrance West.
