O'Malley To Announce Presidential Plans May 30
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Martin O'Malley is closer to announcing whether he'll run for the Democratic primary nomination for president. The former Maryland governor has been in New York and New Hampshire this week.
Political reporter Pat Warren has more on his immediate plans.
The official announcement is May 30--and everything points to a career path to the White House.
Following Martin O'Malley's march: from the city, to the state, to the nation.
O'Malley on Meet the Press: "And I am more inclined and more deeply motivated now to address what's wrong with our country and what needs to be healed and what needs to be fixed."
O'Malley on ABC This Week: "We need people who know how to get things done and we need new leadership. That's why I'm here."
Obama at White House Correspondents Dinner: "Hillary kicked things off by going completely unrecognized in a Chipotle. Not to be outdone, Martin O'Malley kicked things off by going completely unrecognized at a Martin O'Malley campaign event."
But President Obama clearly knows who Martin O'Malley is, and his national TV exposure and trips to states with early primaries are gaining name recognition--even in a Saturday Night Live spoof on Hillary.
But UMBC public policy director Don Norris says not everybody's laughing.
"There is an increasing number of voices that are saying we need an alternative to Hillary Clinton," said Norris.
Among the most vocal is O'Malley himself.
Not to tip his own hand, but O'Malley has reportedly scheduled a conference call with aides and supporters for Thursday night.
Again, the official announcement is May 30. It will take place in Baltimore.
