O'Malley Appoints Delegate To Judgeship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland state lawmaker has been appointed to be a judge in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.

Gov. Martin O'Malley announced Tuesday that Del. Cathy Vitale has been appointed to the bench.

It was one of several judicial appointments announced by O'Malley on Tuesday.

Vitale, a Republican, has served in the Maryland House of Delegates since 2010. She was re-elected to her seat last month.

Now, the Anne Arundel County Republican Central Committee will nominate someone to take her place in the House. The recommended replacement will be forwarded to the governor for final approval.
