Officer dragged, hurt while attempting to arrest car theft suspect in Southeast Baltimore

BALTIMORE -- A Baltimore Police officer was dragged and hurt while attempting to arrest a car theft suspect in Southeast Baltimore Tuesday.

Police said the incident happened around 11:35 a.m. at Conkling Road and Pulaski Highway.

That's where the Baltimore Police Department's helicopter crew found a stolen, occupied vehicle that had stopped near the intersection, according to authorities.

Officers approached the vehicle on foot in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop, and the man behind the wheel, 30-year-old Nicholas Peters, reacted by stepping on the accelerator—dragging the officers several feet, police said.

Other officers were eventually able to stop the vehicle and arrest Peters, according to authorities.

The officer was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for back and shoulder injuries, police said.

Peters was taken to a local hospital, too, after he complained to officers about leg pain, according to authorities.

Afterward, he was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he will be charged in connection to the incident.
