Officer Convicted, 2nd Acquitted In Inmate Beating
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A former corrections officer at a Maryland prison has been convicted on three civil rights and conspiracy charges in connection with the beating of any inmate. A second former officer was acquitted of conspiring to help cover up the assault.
A federal jury in Washington convicted James Kalbflesh on Thursday of conspiring with other officers to violate the civil rights of the inmate; with violating the inmate's rights; and with conspiring to obstruct justice after the assault.
Jason Weicht was acquitted.
Thirteen others have been convicted of crimes relating to the 2008 beating of Kevin Davis, an inmate at Roxbury Correctional Institution near Hagerstown, Md. Davis suffered a broken nose, back and ribs from a series of assaults after Davis punched a guard.
