Ocean City Church Plans To Rebuild Following 2013 Arson

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- Officials at an Ocean City church are thinking about rebuilding after a 2013 fire destroyed the rectory.

Church finance spokesman Tom Shuster tells The Daily Times that church leaders authorized a contract for site plan and construction and architectural drawings at St. Paul's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

Shuster says that new construction will be in the form of a two-story addition. Last year, leaders decided to demolish rather than renovate the rectory, which was destroyed in November 2013.

Officials say John Raymond Sterner set himself on fire with gasoline, ran into the church, and the fire spread from him to the structure. Sterner and the church's pastor, the Rev. David Dingwall, were killed. A woman was severely burned.
