MDTA Officer Convicted In Off-Duty Gun Assault Involving 3
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Maryland Transportation Authority police officer has been convicted in the off-duty assault of a man who was beaten in the head with a gun.
A Baltimore City Circuit Court judge convicted 41-year-old Derwin Waldron on two assault charges and other counts on Wednesday.
Waldron faces a minimum five-year prison sentence at his sentencing Dec. 8.
Waldron's attorney didn't immediately return a message seeking comment early Friday.
On March 31, 2012, prosecutors say Waldron was in a car driven by his daughter when three men walked by and one briefly sat on the hood.
Shortly after, the men say Waldron came up behind them and beat one of them over the head with a gun, causing serious injuries. Waldron's also accused of pointing the gun at the other two men.
