Mother Of Fatal Hit-And-Run Victim Pleading For Help To Find Driver
BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A Baltimore County mother is desperately searching for information that could help lead police to her son's killer.
Keith Tawney, 23, was left to die after being hit by a driver along a stretch of North Point Boulevard.
"As the weeks pass, this person probably thinks he's going to get away with it -- but I can promise you that I won't rest until the person is held accountable for killing my son," his mother, Denise Tawney, said.
On August 23, just before 1 a.m., Tawney was walking home from a friend's house when police say a driver crashed into him, sending him airborne. He died instantly. The driver sped off.
"The person that killed him knows they killed him," his mother said.
Denise Tawney sat with WJZ, showing us all that she has left of her 6-foot-tall pride and joy.
"This changed my life forever, my family's life forever. Life will never be the same as we know it because of his actions," she said.
Tawney tells WJZ tips have been coming to her directly--some even naming a suspect. Police say that's information that should be coming to them or the anonymous tip line at Metro Crime Stoppers.
"You don't have to give your name if you're uncomfortable about it. We'd rather have the information than have nothing," said Cpl. John Wachter, Baltimore County Police Department.
For the Tawney family, "nothing" is an unacceptable answer.
"He's just out there living his life like he didn't do anything. He killed my son," Denise Tawney said.
If you know anything about the case, police ask you to go to them directly with tips. You can remain anonymous.
Police say this is the second fatal crash in the area in recent months.
