Naval Academy Midshipman Injured In Small Plane Crash Near Easton Airport
EASTON, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland State Police said that a U.S Naval Academy midshipman suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a small plane crashed near Easton Airport on Thursday afternoon.
Police responded around 11:15 a.m. to Easton Airport for the crash involving a Trident Air single-engine plane in a field near the airport. Officials said they do not know how the plane crashed. The plane crashed as the midshipman was trying to land.
The pilot was taken to Shock Trauma as a precaution. He was the only one in the aircraft and the only person injured during the incident.
Police have not released the name of the midshipman due to privacy, but said they are a member of the Naval Academy's Powered Flight Program (PFP), which provides midshipmen interested in eventually becoming naval aviators the opportunity to learn to fly prior to commissioning and beginning Naval Flight School. The pilot was soloing as a part of his syllabus.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board also responded to the crash.
