Metro's Summer Arts Series Starting

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Annual summer arts performances at Metro stations are starting.

Metro says the "MetroPerforms!" performances begin Monday with choral groups performing at seven stations during the evening commute. Metro says it's chosen about 20 singers, dancers, musicians and poets to entertain at summer performances outside train stations.

Metro's Art in Transit Program held auditions for the performances last week at Metro's headquarters in Washington. The artists selected for the program must pass a background check and are volunteering their time by performing. They may also be selected to perform at the Music on the Mall lunchtime performance series.

Monday's performances will be at the Navy Yard, L'Enfant Plaza, King Street, Columbia Heights, Dupont Circle, Takoma Park and Eastern Market stations. The performances end Aug. 29.
