6 Firefighters Injured In Baltimore City Blaze
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It was a fight or flight situation for Baltimore City fire crews, pulling a brother out of a raging house fire in East Baltimore early Wednesday morning.
"We need two medics," Firefighters said on the scene from the sidewalk.
Six firefighters were injured in a Wednesday morning fire in East Baltimore.
Officials reported a two-alarm fire around 8:15 a.m. in the 400 block of N. Glover Street.
There was one person inside the row home at the time of the fire, they managed to safely escape, along with two dogs.
But by afternoon, all that remained was a charred and gutted row home and a lot of questions.
"At this time we don't know what could have caused all six of them being injured at the same time. That will be part of the investigation," said Blair Adams, Baltimore City Fire spokesperson.
"The only thing I kept seeing was a lot of black smoke. I was like 'I hope somebody called the fire department. I think their house is on fire," said neighbor Valerie Baskerville.
The fire reportedly started in the basement but the cause is still under investigation.
According to officials, the firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries on their hands, arms and faces. They were all transported to area hospitals.

"Oh my god, I hope they made it ok. I really did, I prayed to the father god, please let them be ok," Baskerville said.
One firefighters suffered second-degree burns, five others suffered burns to their face and body, and all are expected to survive, with five of the six firefighters have been released, with one staying overnight.
"No homes threatened, the adjacent home had some smoke damage, but no one was home at the time, this could have been a lot worse, we definitely don't want to tell the story that we have injured firefighters but we're fortunate they had minor injuries," Adams said.
The Baltimore Fire Department originally released a statement saying seven firefighters were injured. They have since corrected that number.

The area surrounding the fire on Glover and Jefferson Streets is blocked off to traffic as crews work to contain the flames.
