Woman Gets 5 Years In Boy's Death In West Virginia
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- A Maryland woman has been sentenced to up to five years in prison for child neglect.
Media outlets report Jasmine K. Dawkins, 24, of Waldorf, Md., was sentenced Thursday in Berkeley County Circuit Court.
A jury convicted Dawkins in November of two child neglect counts and one count of providing false information to medical personnel. Jurors found Dawkins not guilty of death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian by child abuse.
The charges stem from the New Year's Day 2012 death of 3-year-old Kaiwon Connelley.
Police say the boy suffered a fractured skull and other injuries.
The boy's father, 22-year-old James N. Mauldin of Martinsburg, is scheduled to stand trial on March 4.
