Md. Police Seek Juvenile Offender After Crash

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say they're looking for a group-home runaway who apparently stole a car and crashed it on Interstate 70 near Hagerstown.

Witnesses told police the 16-year-old fled the crash scene Tuesday morning and tried to break into a house near Williamsport before the homeowner chased him away.

Police say he was driving a Jeep Cherokee with West Virginia tags that was stolen from Allegany County. They say the SUV struck a State Highway Administration mowing vehicle before hitting a guardrail near the I-81 interchange.

The Department of Juvenile Services says the boy disappeared Monday night from the Salem Children's Trust group home near Grantsville, about 80 miles from Hagerstown. The home is a private, non-secure facility that contracts with the state agency.
