Md. Man Sentenced In W.Va. For Mom's Slaying
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- A Maryland man has been sentenced in West Virginia for the slaying of his mother during a robbery.
Media outlets report that 35-year-old Joshua L. Stitley of Hancock, Md., received a life with mercy sentence plus at least 65 years on Monday in Berkeley County Circuit Court. That means he will be eligible for parole in 15 years.
Stitley pleaded guilty in October 2013 to felony murder, first-degree robbery, attempted robbery and malicious wounding.
Prosecutors say Stitley and co-defendant Roy L. Wisotzkey of Hagerstown, Md., broke into the Falling Waters home of Stitley's mother, 57-year-old Vickie Clem on May 26, 2011. She was fatally beaten and stabbed. Her husband, Jack Clem, was stabbed but survived.
Wisotzkey is serving a life with mercy sentence plus 50 years for robbery.
