Md. Man Pleads Guilty In Father's Stabbing Death

MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) -- A Carroll County man has pleaded guilty to murder in his father's stabbing death last year.

Joseph Wesley Pine pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Monday as part of a plea agreement. He faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced on Oct. 10.

The Carroll County Times reports that the 32-year-old Pine had been set for trial Monday before Pine's attorneys and prosecutors reached a plea agreement.

Maryland State Police say Pine and his father were fighting last September when Pine pulled fatally stabbed him. Court documents say 63-year-old Michael Pine had 22 stab wounds and more than 60 cutting wounds.

Joseph Pine's attorney says he'll argue for a lighter sentence than life in prison for his client but declined to be specific.
