Md. Man Charged With Killing 1 Year-Old
HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police have charged a man with killing his girlfriend's young son.
Officers say 1-year-old Jason Perez was taken to a hospital on Dec. 10 after being found unresponsive in his home in Hyattsville. Police say he died two days later.
Authorities say 21-year-old Melvin Melendez had called 911 and said the toddler had fallen out of bed and wasn't breathing. Officers say the boy's mother left him in Melendez's care when she went to work.
Police say the medical examiner ruled the cause of the boy's death was multiple blunt force injuries and the manner was homicide.
Melendez is charged with second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
