Sentencing Postponed For Md. Inmate Who Escaped From Highway Work Crew
OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland prison inmate will wait a little longer to be sentenced for his violent escape from an outdoor work crew in Garrett County.
A winter storm prompted the postponement Monday of the sentencing in Oakland of Larry Johnson.
He could get life plus 70 years added to his prison term for escape, carjacking and attempted first-degree murder.
Johnson, 40, left a highway work crew in September 2012 and used a pair of pliers to stab a correctional officer in the torso. He then got behind the wheel of a prison van, wrecked that vehicle, flagged down a motorist, stabbed him in the head, stole his car and hit a tree.
Johnson was serving a 20-year sentence for carjacking and handgun convictions in Prince George's County.
