Md. Firearm Deer Season Opens
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's two-week firearm deer season is opening with more Sunday hunting opportunities and other rule changes aimed reducing the whitetail population.
Maryland's most popular deer season begins Saturday and continues through Dec. 13. The Department of Natural Resources says hunters using modern firearms accounted for 46 percent of all deer taken in 2013-14.
This season features expanded Sunday hunting opportunities in the four westernmost counties. And in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties, Sunday hunting will be allowed for the first time on public land.
Another rule limits hunters statewide to two antlered white-tailed deer bearing two or fewer points per antler. Any additional antlered deer taken must have three or more points on at least one antler. The rule is aimed at encouraging hunters to kill more does.
