Md. Democrats Have Helped To Set The Pace For DNC
PHILADELPHIA (WJZ) -- Marylanders tuned into the Democratic National Convention have watched Baltimore take center stage this week.
The roll call, the nomination and platform speeches have all been done by Baltimore Democrats, WJZ's Pat Warren reports.
It's been a Baltimore blue crab fest. Prominent Maryland Democrats have helped to set the pace for the DNC. Senator Barbara Mikulski nominated the first woman presidential candidate.
"I broke a barrier when I became the first Democratic woman elected in the Senate," said Mikulski. "So on behalf of all the women who've broken down barriers for others and with an eye toward the barriers ahead, I proudly place Hillary Clinton's name in nomination to be the next president,."
After gaveling the convention to order on Monday, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake remained prominent moderating the roll call, and Congressman Elijah Cummings brought Baltimore's struggles to the platform.
"Our party does not just believe but understands that black lives matter," said Cummings. "But we also , we also recognize that our communities and our law enforcement work best when they work together."
