Md. Deer Hunt Tally Up 10 Percent From Last Year
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources says hunters killed 10 percent more deer in 2013-14 than they did last season.
The agency reported Thursday that hunters took nearly 96,000 deer during the archery, muzzleloader and firearm seasons combined from September through January.
State biologists attribute the increase to factors, including more hunters participating and better hunting conditions. They say deer were more active as they searched for scarce acorns to eat.
Last year's total deer harvest of nearly 88,000 marked the first time in a decade that the tally had dropped below 90,000.
