Md. Air National Guard Celebrates Opening Of New Facility In Middle River
MIDDLE RIVER, Md. (WJZ) -- The Maryland Air National Guard celebrates the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility in Baltimore County.
As Tim Williams reports, energy saving materials help make the $14 million structure cost efficient.
There's a new building in the ranks of Maryland Air National Guard. The Warfield Air National Guard Base in Middle River now houses one of the guard's newest and most eco-friendly buildings.
Home of the 175th Wing Headquarters, this military structure has a specific mission.
"It houses our medical group, our wing headquarters function, our personnel and admin sections," said Joe Winter, Maryland Air National Guard. "In addition, we have our support functions, like our legal team, our equal opportunity and really folks who support the every day mission here."
The new $14 million, 33,700 sq. ft. facility was completed earlier this year. The facility was built to achieve certified standards for conservation.
It uses energy saving materials and systems that include sustainable green roofs and has state-of-the-art environmental control systems designed to create a modern, functional and eco-friendly work environment.
"These airmen have been involved in missions, federal missions in Afghanistan and Iraq in the last 13 years. And it's in recognition of their great service that we provide them this great facility," Major General James A. Adkins said.
"This is a beautiful facility that will serve not only the needs for today but the needs of tomorrow," U.S. Senator Ben Cardin said.
The old facility will be torn down in the coming months.
