BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A World Cup victory by the US Women's Team continues to excite fans here in Maryland.
Marcus Washington has more on what this win means for the sport and young women.
There is nothing better than a win---except maybe an international win. To see a group of energized and talented women claim the women's World Cup title was nothing less than inspiring.
It's a victory the US has not seen in 16 years. The women's US soccer team beat Japan and captured the World Cup title once again. It's a joyous moment that was felt throughout Baltimore as the victory happened.
The US women's soccer victory in the World Cup energized soccer practice in Dundalk Monday morning.
"For the girls we coach, and the boys as well, to see their own country, men and women at the top of the game, is quite incredible. So it's a huge inspiration for them and hopefully that inspires them to stick at it and keep improving," said Jamie Darvill, Baltimore Blast.
The win was especially important for 11-year-old Justine Weiss.
"It was really exciting. I was so happy for all the US players," she said. "I just want to be one of them because they are so inspirational."

"We're not going to have soccer fever instantly from this point forward but every little bump and every time we have great success on that international level, it helps on the grassroots level and that's really important," said John Maroon, Maroon PR.
During Sunday's game, Carli Lloyd's hat trick is the first ever in a women's World Cup final and the fastest ever in World Cup history---men or women.
