Warm weekend ahead of Monday storms in Maryland

Temperatures soared into the upper 70s and 80s across much of Maryland on Saturday afternoon; the warmest away from the bay. The BWI Thurgood Marshall area briefly soared into the mid-80s, close to a record high.

Temperatures will gradually cool back through the 70s and into the 60s after sunset. Expect a pleasant Saturday evening for outdoor plans. Clouds continue streaming overhead. The chance of rain remains very low. A few sprinkles are possible, mainly north of I-70.

If anything, clouds could enhance the sunset across Baltimore and greater Maryland. Get outside and enjoy the evening.

Sunday begins with mild temperatures in the 50s and lower 60s. Like Saturday, it'll be a battle between the sun and clouds again on Sunday. Clouds will win out even though the First Alert Forecast remains mostly dry.

Temperatures soar into the mid and upper 70s across the area Sunday afternoon, with peeks of sunshine. Spotty light rain is possible across greater Baltimore during the later afternoon and evening hours. A heavier rain shower or isolated thunderstorms may impact far western Maryland.

Scattered rain and storms blast through Monday

A cold front is set to bring an end to the unseasonably warm weather.

Monday morning features a few rain showers. Damp roads are possible during the morning commute.

A more impactful line of storms will sweep through during the afternoon and evening hours. Therefore, WJZ has issued a First Alert Weather Day for Monday.

A few severe thunderstorms are possible. Wind gusts up to 60 MPH will be the biggest threat from any storm that manages to become severe. Hail is also a possibility.

Any storm on Monday is capable of producing brief heavy rain and lots of lightning.

This may impact the Orioles home-opener. However, the timing of the storms is key. If they hold off long enough, the game may go off without a hitch.
