Maryland Weather: Cool & Breezy Ahead Of Wednesday's Alert Day
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The WJZ First Alert Weather Team has declared Wednesday morning an Alert Day because of the chance for some winter weather that could impact your commute.
Tuesday will be an enjoyable lull in between Monday night's strong storms and the mixture of rain and snow headed our way. We'll have mostly sunny skies for the second half of the day as temperatures top out in the low 50s.
That's quite a change after the toasty 79° we had on Monday.
We will stay dry until after midnight when a cold rain spreads across the state. Before sunrise Wednesday, we'll see some pockets of light snowfall and a bit of a wintry mix edging into western and northern portions of the state.
For those of us in the Baltimore area, we'll likely see just rain. Warm air at the surface will work against the snow making it to the ground and what does end up on the surface will just be a slushy coating.
Accumulations of 2-3" of snow are possible in Garrett County, but the rest of us will see less than an inch.
By mid to late morning, any frozen precipitation will transition to plain rain and by midday the bulk of the rain will be out of there.
Unfortunately, the best window for this wet snow seems to be when many of you are heading to work or getting the kids off the school, so watch for some slick spots on the roads and sidewalks.
Thursday and Friday are looking calm, but by Friday night and into Saturday, we could be dealing with strong storms once again with damaging wind gusts possible.
