Maryland Men's Soccer Big Ten Champions

The top seeded Maryland Men's soccer team, in their first year in the conference, defeated Indiana 2-1 in the Big Ten Championship game on Sunday at Ludwig Field. The game was tied 1-1 in the final 10 minutes of play until a well placed free kick by Mael Corboz in the 86th minute gave the Terrapins the lead.

The Indiana Hoosiers have dominated their conference being named regular season champion 14 times, including 9-straight seasons (1996-2004), winning 12 Big Ten titles along with 8 National Championships. Needless to say this was a big win for the University of Maryland program.

Coach Sasho Cirovski's team is on an 11-game win streak and will likely get a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament which starts later this week. This is the Terps 14th consecutive berth in the soccer tournament. The NCAA will announce the 48 teams participating at 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon.

Sunday's victory was Maryland's 31st conference title overall and seventh tournament crown. Midfielder Mael Corboz and goalkeeper Zack Steffen earned Big Ten Tournament Offensive and Defensive MVP awards, respectively. Ambrose, Odoi-Atsem and Dan Metzger were also named to the All-Tournament team.
