Maryland Man Gets 7 Years In Fatal Heroin Sale
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Maryland man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to providing heroin to a man who died after using the drug.
Twenty-one-year-old Jacob Powell of Thurmont, in Frederick County, was sentenced Tuesday to the seven-year prison term and ordered to pay more than $7,000 in restitution to the family of the man who died after using the heroin.
Prosecutors say Powell and 21-year-old Kathleen Myers, also of Thurmont, sold heroin throughout western Maryland between 2012 and this past summer. On June 11, prosecutors say Derek Dunsmore bought heroin off of Myers and Powell in Emmitsburg and that he died after taking the drug.
Myers also was sentenced to seven years in prison.
