Maryland Man Caught With Loaded Gun At BWI

LINTHICUM, Md. (WJZ) -- An Owings Mills man was caught with a loaded gun at Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshal Airport Wednesday.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, officers found the man trying to bring a loaded semi-automatic .45 caliber handgun past a security checkpoint.

It's the 15th gun TSA officers have detected at BWI checkpoints this year, which surpasses the numbed of firearms found last year. Fourteen firearms were found in 2014.

The handgun was loaded with six bullets in the man's carry-on items as he was passing through the X-ray machine. He was ticketed to fly to Indiana.

Firearms, firearm parts and ammunition are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.

"Travelers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties from TSA of up to $11,000," the TSA reports.
