Maryland Gun Shop Robbery Leaves 1 Dead; 4 At Large
ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- A brazen gun store robbery in Montgomery County left one man dead and four other suspects on the loose early Thursday morning.
A car smashed through the outside of the United Gun Shop in Rockville and into the store. The robbery involved at least one stolen car and five men.
The break-in and robbery triggered an alarm- and as police responded, the suspects jumped in a car and made their getaway, hitting a police car during the escape.
An officer involved in the incident fired on the car- hitting one of the men who was found dead. The other four suspects ran. Three guns were recovered at the getaway car and a bag of guns were found in a neighbor's backyard- walking distance from the store.
"We would beg that if anyone has any home video surveillance that they monitor it or review it to see something that might be able to assist us," Interim Police Chief Marcus Jones said.
The United Gun Shop has reportedly been hit four times in the past two years.
"We believe that those individuals probably came here armed and dangerous right from the beginning," Jones said.
Howard County Police is assisting Montgomery County Police to see if the incident might be related to a recent gun shop robbery in Laurel.
There's been no word on how many guns were stolen during the robbery.
