Maryland Fans Give Lady Terps A Champion Send-Off To The Final Four

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ)— The pride of College Park is making its way to Nashville. The Terps women's basketball team gets a rousing send-off as they board the bus to the Final Four.

Christie Ileto was there for the big rally.

Cheering Terps fans pump up the volume Thursday.

"I'm so excited. My heart is jumping out of my chest," said Sherril Moon, fan.

The Lady Terps are hitting the road to the Final Four in Nashville.

And this crowd is making sure they get a champion send off.

"Kick Butt!" the university president exclaimed.

Yes, that's right. University of Maryland president Wallace Loh is sporting school spirit!

"It's exciting. The support we have is incredible," said Lexie Brown, basketball freshman.

First game: Notre Dame.

"We're just going down there with an open mindset and ready to play our first game," said Alyssa Smith, basketball senior.

And it won't be an easy fight.

"When it comes time to lock in, in terms of preparation, we have to continue to do what got us to this point," said Coach Brenda Frese.

The last time the Lady Terps made it to the Final Four was 2006-- the year they won it all. Fans want that feeling back.

One women displayed a sign that read "Terp Women Rule."

"We made it after the 2006 national championship, and we've been carrying it to games ever since," she said.

Their march to the Final Four is grabbing lots of attention.

Baltimore Ravens player Torrey Smith--who is a fellow Terp--and NBA super star Kevin Durant-- who went to high school in Rockville-- sent big congrats to the team on Twitter.

"How can you not love @BrendaFrese " Smith Tweeted. "Let's Go @umdwbb"

Smith also mentioned on Twitter that if he wasn't expecting the arrival of his new baby boy, he would attend the Final Four game.

"Big Congrats to the University of Maryland women's basketball team, Final Four bound! S/O my high school coach Dave Adkins on the sideline," Durant said.

"Hopefully we'll see a lot of you down in Nashville. Go, Terps!" Frese said.

It's just another stop for the Lady Terps who are two games from clinching the national title.

Notre Dame is undefeated. If Maryland beats them, they will go onto play Stanford or UConn for the championship.
