Maryland Congressional Delegation Urges Storm Disaster Aid

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's congressional delegation is urging President Barack Obama to quickly approve Gov. Larry Hogan's request for a federal disaster declaration to help cover costs of last month's record-breaking blizzard.

Maryland's two U.S. senators and all eight representatives sent the letter Tuesday. Hogan made the request Friday.

The storm began Jan. 22 and covered the state in up to 38.5 inches of snow. It brought winds of up to 55 mph and caused coastal and tidal flooding. Hogan declared a weeklong state of emergency.

The congressional delegation says Hogan estimates the total cost at more than $34 million.

The state of Pennsylvania is also seeking a federal disaster declaration.
