Manny Machado Named Best Third Basemen In MLB For 2016
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- CBS Sports has been ranking the best players in each position for MLB for the 2016 season.
1. They rank the players based upon which ones they would most want to have for the 2016 season only, ignoring salary.
2. These are subjective, as voted on by Matt Snyder, Dayn Perry and Mike Axisa. They ranked the players at each position individually and averaged out the results.
3. These aren't fantasy baseball rankings. All-around play matters.
So who made it into the No. 1 spot? Oriole Manny Machado.
They said, "He might seem a wily veteran but was only 22 last season. He might be a bit overshadowed thanks to debuting when Mike Trout and Bryce Harper were rookies. Maybe he was overlooked last season due to the Orioles being mediocre."
Sounds like our very own Steve Davis was right when he said the Orioles need to make moves to keep Manny around as long as they can. In January, the club agreed to one-year contracts for next season with star third baseman Manny Machado. Machado received the largest raise of the bunch, agreeing to a one-year deal worth $5 million plus performance incentives in his first year of arbitration eligibility, according to an industry source. Machado earned just $548,000 last season.
The experts continued to say, "Machado is a bona fide superstar at a ridiculously young age. An ironman, he played all 162 games, hitting 35 homers while stealing 20 bases and again looking like the best defensive player in baseball at the hot corner."
