Man Who Fled To England Convicted In Md. Slaying
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A New York man who fled to England after a slaying in western Maryland has been convicted of second-degree murder in the 2006 shooting.
The Herald-Mail reports that 26-year-old Joshua Edwards of Brooklyn entered an Alford plea Tuesday in Hagerstown in the slaying of Jackson Rodriguez. An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt, but an acknowledgment that prosecutors have enough evidence to gain a conviction.
Edwards was sentenced to 50 years in prison. He received credit for a total of seven years and three months of time served.
Edwards was arrested in London in 2007 and returned to the United States in 2012.
Rodriguez was shot inside a Hagerstown apartment. He is the second man convicted in the slaying over what prosecutors say was a personality conflict.
