Man Sentenced To 30 Years For Killing Cellmate
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A man serving a 100-year prison term for drowning a woman in a bathtub has been sentenced to 30 years for killing his cellmate.
Thirty-one-year-old Jeffrey Eugene Cordell pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing 21-year-old Robert Tunnell. The Capital of Annapolis reports (http://bit.ly/1hmkuQG) that he was sentenced Wednesday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.
Prosecutors say on June 26, 2012, Cordell and Tunnell were in the same cell at the Jessup Correctional Institution. Authorities say Cordell, angered because Tunnell was convicted of a sex offense, tied his shoestrings into a noose and choked Tunnell.
Prosecutors say Cordell beat Tunnell, dragged him to the toilet and put his head face-down in the water.
Cordell pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the 2010 slaying of 27-year-old Erica Green om Elkton.
