Man Pleads Guilty To Stabbing Transgender Girl On Train

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Maryland man has pleaded guilty to stabbing a 15-year-old transgender girl on a Metro train.

Twenty-five-year-old Reginald Klaiber of Greenbelt, Maryland, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon with a hate crime enhancement Friday in Superior Court in Washington. He faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing on March 11.

According to government evidence, on July 30, Klaiber tried to engage the girl in conversation on a Green Line train approaching the Fort Totten Metro station. Prosecutors say the girl asked Klaiber to leave her alone.

Authorities say Klaiber began harassing the girl, asking if she were a boy and why she looked like a woman.

Prosecutors say Klaiber then grabbed the girl in a bear hug and stabbed her in the back with a knife.
