Man Indicted For Murder Of Co-Worker At Brooklyn Park Popeyes Restaurant

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)— A 26-year-old man was indicted Friday for the murder of a co-worker at a Popeyes restaurant in Brooklyn Park last month.

Moises Gomez-Castillo is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and theft.

On the morning of Aug. 31, Anne Arundel County police were called to the Popeyes restaurant at 5317 Ritchie Highway. A manager at the restaurant told officers he arrived that morning and found a restaurant employee, identified as 47-year-old Luzviminda Monreal-Benny, in the back of the business with trauma to her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Monreal-Benny had worked the night shift on Aug. 30. Investigation revealed that Gomez-Castillo, also an employee of the restaurant, had planned a robbery at the business. Police recovered numerous items of evidence linking him to the crime.

Gomez-Castillo was taken into custody and charged. He remains held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center without bond.
