Man Gets Life For Killing Roommate, Dumping Body In River

BEL AIR, Md. (AP) -- An Abingdon man has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for killing his roommate and dumping his body in the Susquehanna River.

Twenty-nine-year-old Sean Turkot was sentenced Tuesday in a Harford County court, the State's Attorney's Office said in a news release. He was convicted in December of first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Edward Hayden.

Prosecutors say Turkot, apparently jealous of Hayden's relationship with Turkot's ex-girlfriend, conspired with 30-year-old Alexander Smoot to kill Hayden.

Authorities say Turkot and Smoot stabbed and beat Hayden to death on Jan. 4, 2015. Prosecutors say the men wrapped his body in a blanket and a tarp, and dropped it in the Susquehanna.

Smoot pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and is awaiting sentencing.
