Man Flees, Crashes Into Officer's Car In Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- A Salisbury police officer and a suspect in a domestic incident have been hospitalized after their vehicles collided.

Salisbury police say 27-year-old Michael V. Rayne fled from officers who had arrived at his house early Tuesday morning to investigate a reported domestic dispute between Rayne and his live-in girlfriend.

Police say Rayne drove away and they did not pursue him. A few minutes later, Rayne collided with Salisbury Police Officer Zachary Converse, who was driving to the scene.

Both Rayne and Converse were rushed to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, but due to the severity of their injuries, were both later transferred to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Salisbury Police say this accident is still under investigation and charges against Rayne are pending.
