Man Charged With Negligent Homicide In December Crash

MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) -- Howard County police have charged a man with DUI and negligent homicide in a pickup truck crash in Mount Airy.

Officers arrested 29-year-old Karl Tomanek of Mount Airy on Monday in the death of 26-year-old James Nicholas Dejordy of Clarksville. Tomanek was released on $50,000 bond.

Investigators say on Dec. 12, a pickup truck was traveling north on Shaffersville Road when it left the road, overturned and struck a tree. Police say Dejordy was killed and three others in the truck were hurt.

Officers say no one in the truck was wearing a seatbelt and all were ejected from the vehicle in the crash. Police said initially it could not be confirmed who was driving the truck, but the investigators determined Tomanek was driving.
