Man Burned In Brooklyn Park Basement Fire

BROOKLYN PARK, Md. (WJZ)--One person is burned after escaping from an early morning single-alarm fire in Brooklyn Park.

A 22-year-old man was transported to the John Hopkins Burn Center following the Monday morning blaze.

Just after 6:30 a.m., units were dispatched for smoke from a dwelling in the unit block of Ballman Court. An engine company clearing a medical call in the same area arrived on location just after the initial dispatch, reporting smoke showing from a middle of the group row home. A basement fire was discovered and brought under control by 28 firefighters in approximately 25 minutes.

While units were on location of the fire, Anne Arundel Fire Communications was notified that a burn patient from the fire had evacuated the house and relocated to the Sav-A-Lot in the 5000-block of Ritchie Highway North.

Medical units responded to that location and the patient, a 22-year-old man, was transported to the John Hopkins Burn Center with first-and second-degree burns to his arms and back.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
