Man Accused Accused Of Kidnapping Philly Woman Pleads Not Guilty
PHILADELPHIA (AP/WJZ) — A man accused of grabbing a 22-year-old Philadelphia woman off the street and was later caught in Maryland has pleaded not guilty to a federal kidnapping charge.
In federal court Friday, 37-year-old Delvin Barnes, of Virginia, waived his right to a bail hearing and agreed to stay behind bars. He was indicted Thursday.
The FBI says Barnes abducted Carlesha Freeland-Gaither as she walked home on Nov. 2 and forced her into his car. In a motion for pretrial detention filed Friday, prosecutors say she was "forced to lie bound and cold in the trunk of the defendant's car."
Federal agents found them three days later in Jessup, Md. after the woman's ATM card was used in Aberdeen and later agents tracked Barnes' GPS to the parking lot in Maryland.
Barnes is also a suspect in the abduction and attempted murder of a 16-year-old Richmond, Virginia, girl who was doused in bleach.
Both victims survived.
