Lawyers For Chris Brown Pick Trial Date In D.C.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Prosecutors and lawyers for singer Chris Brown have chosen April 17 as the start date for his trial on a misdemeanor assault charge.
Brown's lawyers and prosecutors picked the trial date Thursday during a hearing in Superior Court in Washington. Brown was not at the hearing.
The R&B singer was arrested in October after a man said the singer struck him outside the W Hotel when he tried to get in a picture Brown was taking with two other people.
Meanwhile, a civil lawsuit filed Tuesday in Washington seeks $1.5 million each from Brown and his bodyguard. Lawyers for Parker Isaac Adams say their client's nose was fractured and he had other injuries to his head and face as a result of being punched.
Adams said in a telephone interview Thursday that he is seeking to recover money for his medical bills which include visits to a plastic surgeon and a breathing specialist. A lawyer for Adams, John C. Hayes Jr., said his client is largely seeking money for "pain and suffering."
Lawyers for Brown and his bodyguard declined to comment Thursday on the lawsuit.
When Brown was arrested, the Grammy winner was on probation in California for a 2009 attack on singer Rihanna, his then-girlfriend.
Brown last appeared in court in Washington in January. At that hearing, one of Brown's lawyers told a judge that Brown has rejected a plea deal for the assault charge.
