Lawsuit Over Md. Groundwater Pollution Settled
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- There is a settlement in a civil lawsuit alleging groundwater pollution from a Frederick County gas station.
The Frederick News-Post reports the case involving the former Green Valley Citgo in Monrovia was settled ahead of a scheduled hearing Tuesday in Frederick County Circuit Court.
Court records don't contain details of the deal but indicate the defendants proposed a payment to the plaintiffs.
Lawyers for the lead plaintiffs and principal defendants declined to comment.
The lawsuit sought more than $3.75 billion for alleged contamination of groundwater with petroleum products.
The Maryland Department of the Environment says it's supervising remediation of the gasoline component MTBE in the groundwater. The agency says six homes and a strip mall have been given systems to filter contaminants from their drinking water.
