Kids Of All Ages Took To The Hills For Some Fun In The Snow

CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—If it were summer, there would be fun in the sun. But in the dead of winter, dozens of students -- off from snow days -- know how to have some snow fun.

Gigi Barnett has more.

The hill at the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville has a killer ramp, a wicked slope and it's steep.

Like an Olympian in Sochi, these kids are going for gold.

"Awesome. Yeah. Pretty cool," one boy said.

While teachers may be grading papers on this snow day . . .

"Hi, Ms. Possner. Hi, Ms. Hammer," one girl said to the camera, waving to her teachers.

Students are busy grading the hill.

"Two thumbs up," one girl said.

Given the choice of being in school today or a snow day, it's unanimous.

"A snow day," one girl said.

"A snow day," another girl said.

"A snow day," a boy said.

But snow days aren't just for kids. The hill is for grownups, too.

Katie Fields was there to prove it.  But she had some stiff competition.

"There's a little girl in a pink snow tube. Her dad pushed her down, she went flying off that ramp. I wouldn't have done that at that age," Fields said.

Yes, snow days are fun. But if you use too many of them you have to make them up. So far, most of the school districts in our area have used too many.

Only one county is breaking even, and that's Baltimore County.

Monday is Presidents' Day, so some schools are using it as a way to make up for a snow day.
