Keith Cavanaugh: Melo Trimble Not NBA Ready
Keith Cavanaugh with the Maryland Terrapin Times joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about the struggling #14 Terps.
A big reason behind the Terps struggles as of late has been the play of point guard Melo Trimble. Trimble has shot just 25% on 11-44 shooting in his past four games and Keith talked about what is wrong with Melo, "He's definitely got the yips. I think he's a bit dead-legged; the confidence is gone, very tentative, pressing...all of the above has been going on unfortunately for a month now. He's probably looking ahead too much to next year."
Bob Haynie filled in for Scott Garceau and he asked Keith to talk about what exactly Melo is looking forward to next year? "Has he hit his ceiling because he's a great college player but do you project him as an NBA point guard? No. He doesn't have the lift, he can't guard at that spot athletically at the next level. He's too small to be a shooting guard. He's a great college player. Hopefully he returns, otherwise he'll probably be overseas pretty quick unless he becomes this overnight sensational point guard and becomes more athletic and quicker laterally which isn't going to happen."
