Keeping Tabs on College Park with Matt Zenitz
Matt Zenitz covers the University of Maryland for the Baltimore Sun and checked in with Scott and Jeremy to give a preview of Saturday's game against James Madison. Matt believes that the Dukes could be a challenge for the Terps. "I think they're a solid team especially for a Division 1-AA, FCS level. They have ten transfers who have joined their team since the end of the season, seven on offense, three on defense and they're a talented team especially for that level."
Jeremy pointed out that many college football games have been decided with strong special teams play including the Iron Bowl from last year where a 108 yard missed field goal return sent the Auburn Tigers to the national championship. Matt believes that the Terps special teams are in pretty good shape except for one area. "Strong in three areas, in three areas I mean kick return punt return and kicking. They are weak in one and that's punting. Punting has been a concern for them dating back for the spring."
Maryland has been a team that has been snake bitten over the years and lost a lot of players to injury early. Matt said the Terps are in pretty good shape on the injury front. "Fortunately they got through preseason camp as healthy as they have. They had one major injury to a freshman offensive lineman who probably was not going to play."
The Terps kickoff Saturday at 2:30 against the James Madison Dukes. You can listen to the game on 105.7 the Fan.
