Tucker Nails 75-Yard FG, Stanley Injured And More From Ravens Camp
Baltimore (WJZ) -- The Ravens had their second appearance at M&T Bank Stadium in front of nearly 25,000 fans on Saturday night. This practice wasn't nearly as feisty as the one that occurred on Monday, but there's still plenty of noteworthy events that took place.
Tucker Hits 75 Yard Field Goal
We know it's just practice. We know there weren't any defenders. But Justin Tucker hitting a 75-yard field goal in Baltimore, MD is simply to astonishing to ignore. He follows up a performance in which he nailed a 69-yard field goal that got national attention.
Earlier this week, Tucker claimed that he could hit a 84-yard field goal in Denver and the comment didn't sit well with Denver kicker Brandon McManus. He doesn't believe Tucker could get it done and challenged him to come to Denver and prove it.
Studies show that Denver's altitude will allow a kicker to launch a football about 9% further than one would at a normal altitude. If the 75 kick is the barometer, it means he should be able to hit a FG from at least 82 yards. What's a couple of more yards, right?
Rookie LT Ronnie Stanley Injured During Practice
Ronnie Stanley left in the middle of practice with a "soft tissue injury" according to John Harbaugh. Fans shouldn't be too concerned as Stanley was seen in the locker room afterwards without any noticeable discomfort.
"I'm not concerned," Stanley told reporters after practice. "Minor setback. It's nothing major."
Joe Flacco Looks Elite In Camp
There isn't a lot of buzz nationally with the Baltimore Ravens. The echoing sentiment appears to be that pundits are unsure how Flacco will look coming back from his knee injury. Maybe those pundits should come to a Ravens practice or two.
Flacco has been impressive in camp to say the least and Saturday was no different for the former Super Bowl MVP. He looked extra sharp and his arm seems to have increased in power. A deep bomb to Kamar Aiken during drills showed fans what they can expect from Joe this season.
Tavon Young Continues To Impress
It's always tough to make predictions and overall analysis during training camp. But the more he plays, the more Tavon Young appears to be destined to play a big-time role in the Ravens secondary. Baltimore has tested him on both the outside and the inside corner positions and he hasn't disappointed in either roles. With the way the defense played last season, this is welcome news for the franchise.
Injured Players Yet To Return
Terrell Suggs and Steve Smith are two players that Ravens fans are waiting on patiently to return as pre-season games draw near. They've yet to do so and it seems unlikely they'll be ready to perform on Thursday night. Dennis Pitta, who suffered a sprained finger on Monday, has yet to return. They join WR Chris Moore, TE Crockett Gillmore, WR Michael Campanaro, CB Jimmy Smith, and S Matt Elam as players who failed to practice on Saturday.
